On 15th of October, 2020 the project team of "Equal Access for Effective Justice" held a meeting with the mayor of municipality of Kocani, Nikolcho Ilijev.
The mayor welcomed the representatives from Florozon, along with the President of the Association for sustainable development RADAR, Gordana Nestorovska. On the meeting it was discussed about the CSO Coalitions’ fourth Initiative in Kochani related to the local environmental issues such as air and land pollution, as well as the small hydro plant to be built on Mala Reka nearby Lake Gradche. It was emphasized that the local self-government is often powerless to efficiently respond to the problems, nonetheless the municipality stands firm on green perspectives which means building a society that strives to protect the environment, but also the democratic values as a whole. The Aarhus Convention was thus mentioned, as a basic pillar for protection of the right of citizens to a healthy environment, through the right to be informed, the right to participate and the right of access to justice. Further cooperation was mutually agreed upon.
Without inter-sectoral cooperation and mutual communication between the civil society sector and the local self-government, the existing problems cannot be solved. Hence, further cooperation was mutually agreed upon.
