National Council for European Integration, which is part of the Macedonian Parliament on 29.09.2010 organized public discussion of the topic, policies for improving the environment in Macedonia, attended the national TAI Macedonia Mr. Kiril Ristovski. In the presence of senior representatives from government, MPs, Ministerstvata of Environment and Foreign Affairs, diplomatic corps and NGOs debated the position of Macedonia, at home and internationally in the field of environment.
Coordinator of TAI Macedonia, presented the activities of the coalition of national and international level and also pointed to the necessity of introducing additional measures and mechanisms through which the public will be more represented in decision making. Among other things, as one of the priorities highlighted was the ratification of the PRTR Protocol, in the shortest time TAI Macedonia failed to nominate a representative of the Inter Group Aarhus Convention, which was created as part of TAI activities and also to be elected as a member of the Committee on Harmonization of PRTR protocol, said Mr. Ristovski, so I urge the Assembly to take this opportunity in an urgent procedure to start the ratification of the PRTR protocol in our country.
The general conclusion of the public debate, is that the Republic of Macedonia in relation to the region and beyond, well behind the development environment despite making considerable efforts in aligning its legislation with that of the EU. As main reasons for this situation were cited: lack of funds for realization of projects in environment, weak capacity in implementing the legal framework from central to local level, weak megjuinstitucionlna cooperation and so on.
The public debate was organized shortly after the institutional pressure from NGOs and TAI Macedonia by putting direct questions related to relevant environmental institutions and individuals. In addition, you deliver a speech on national TAI Macedonia, Mr. Kiril Ristovski.
