The pan-European network Justice & Environment conducted a regional survey in order to discover whether energy and extractive projects get into conflict with the interest of preserving biodiversity.
For this purpose NGO legal experts from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo (UNMIK) were invited to share their experiences on the detrimental nature of certain large projects, the level of activity of civil society and the public attention towards these issues.
The country/territory surveys were completed in December 2021 and published online on J&E’s website, under the Publications section. Find the surveys under the following links:

The findings of the surveys and of an online session held on 8th December 2021 are that energy projects with special regard to small hydro power plants are extremely damaging for nature in the region, and that exchange of information and the use of legal tools is very important for fighting these phenomena.
The project and the event were funded by the Central European Initiative.
