Yesterday, students from “Strasho Pindzur” Primary School in the Dame Gruev neighborhood, Municipality of Gjorche Petrov, had a unique opportunity to learn how organic household waste can be transformed into products with added value!
Educators from the biotechnology laboratory, together with the students, conducted a series of hands-on experiments demonstrating innovative processes for:
✨ Extracting oil from sunflower seeds,
✨ Producing biodiesel from natural sources, and
✨ Creating bioplastics from organic waste materials.
The workshop offered an exciting journey through science and innovation, showing that waste can become a valuable resource rather than a problem. By engaging directly in experiments, students explored the principles of the circular economy, renewable energy, and sustainable production in a fun and educational way.
This activity is part of the project “Civic Activism for Achieving a Circular Economy in Organic Waste Management”, financially supported by the Government of Switzerland through the Civica Mobilitas program, and implemented by the Resource Environmental Center (REC) – North Macedonia, Eco Logic, and CED FLOROZON – Center for Environmental Democracy.
