Yesterday, at the House of Culture – Gjorche Petrov and along the Lepenec River, we organized the event “River Flow Management and Stream Visual Assessment Protocol (SVAP) Application”, dedicated to introducing young people to modern techniques for assessing and protecting freshwater ecosystems.
The event drew great interest, gathering around 70 participants — youth, institutional representatives, experts, and members of civil society organizations — who engaged in discussions on contemporary methodologies for river assessment and their practical application in local environmental management.
The highlight of the event was the hands-on field exercise on the Lepenec River, where young participants had the opportunity to apply the SVAP (Stream Visual Assessment Protocol) methodology directly in practice. Guided by environmental experts, they learned how to observe, record, and evaluate river conditions — gaining first-hand experience in monitoring and protecting river ecosystems.
The event was organized in partnership with the Resource Environmental Center (REC) – North Macedonia and Eco Logic, within the framework of the project “Rapid Watershed Assessment for the Western Balkans”, supported by the Forest Service International Foundation – USA.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Municipality of Gjorche Petrov for its support, and to all participants whose enthusiasm and active involvement contributed to building an environmentally conscious and responsible community.
