We are proud to announce the start of our new initiative — “Civic Monitoring for Accountable Water Management”, an eight-month project designed to strengthen the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in monitoring and overseeing the management of water resources in North Macedonia.
The overall goal of the project is to build the capacities of civil society organizations and provide them with tools for transparency and accountability in water governance.
Throughout the project, we will:
✅ Identify key areas for monitoring within the national water management system;
✅ Develop a practical monitoring manual tailored for CSOs and citizens;
✅ Conduct capacity-building trainings for local civil society organizations;
✅ Implement pilot monitoring actions in selected areas;
✅ Enhance cooperation and dialogue between civil society, institutions, and the general public.
The project is fully aligned with the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, contributing to regional efforts focused on:
• Reducing pollution and improving water quality,
• Protecting biodiversity and aquatic ecosystems, and
• Promoting sustainable and transparent management of water resources.
By empowering civil society organizations to take a more active role, the project will make them drivers of responsible water governance, while enabling citizens to participate more effectively in decision-making processes that affect their environment and quality of life.
This project is financed under the sub-granting program of the project “Good Environmental Governance under the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans”, implemented by the Center for Legal Research and Analysis (CLRA), the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association (MYLA), and Front 21/42, and financially supported by the European Union.
